A little over two million people have their houses broken into every year, many if not the majority could be avoided if only the homeowners would install secure locks to protect their property. A good lock is an excellent deterrent and can be used to protect not only your home but critical areas inside your property such as home offices, and storage rooms. If you have any questions, you should consult with a locksmith in Miami for more information on types of locks that would protect your home.
1) Deadbolts
Deadbolts are usually installed on outside doors and come in three basic types.
Single-Cylinder Deadbolts
Typically found in American homes, these have a weakness and can be easily opened through a thumb-turn. So a burglar could break into the house using a window. And, then, he could open the door to take any stolen property comfortably.
Double-Cylinder Deadbolts
Using a key cylinder on both the inside and outside. They do not have the weakness of a single-cylinder. But if locked, they require a key for both the inside as well as the outside. This makes them inconvenient for a lot of people.
Hybrid Deadbolts
Using a lockable thumb-turn that basically works like a single-cylinder but can be locked and unlocked at will, this is the best choice of the three.
2) Knob Locks
These locks are probably the most common type found on American homes; they provide more security than a Padlock or a Cam Lock but not as much as a deadbolt or other types of locks. Unfortunately, these can be easily broken into with a hammer or the right tools and will not offer a deterrent to most would-be burglars.
3) Mortise Locks
Much more robust than the two listed before it, these are durable and sturdy locks. They do a great job on external doors. Plus, they can be found in both heavy-duty versions as well as lighter ones. These come in different sizes and shapes. If you want to keep burglars away and protect your home, this is the one we would recommend.
4) Jimmy Proof Deadbolts
You can find these often on apartments, they are surface mount and are usually chosen for the minimal door modifications it requires. Jimmy proof deadbolts interlock with the jamb bracket and are thus prevented from being forced open with ease.
Are you worried about securing your home? You probably should be, the statistics of home invasions are on the rise; fortunately, Miami locksmiths can install any lock and secure your property quickly and safely.
